Combining Weiss Ratings and TheStreet Ratings, this guide for consumers, business professionals, financial institutions, and municipalities supplies graded safety ratings and analyses on 1,100 life and annuity insurers (including some Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans). Components rated are: capitalization, investment safety, profitability, liquidity, and stability. An introduction gives step-by-step instructions for using the book and understanding the ratings. Sections offer an index of companies, an analysis of the largest companies, and lists of recommended companies alphabetically and by state. Section V contains a list of all rated and unrated life and annuity insurers, ranked by financial strength rating and then listed alphabetically within each rating category. Section VI notes rating upgrades and downgrades and gives reasons for the change in each case. Much of the information in the guide is in table form.
