The Story
The story of three young college men from the South who seek a little adventure while facing the uncertainties of the Korean War. The school year is ending & after considering several options of summer employment, they decide on jobs at a New England Summer Resort where there are said to be four women to each man. Fearing that this may be their last chance to enjoy a carefree summer, they eagerly anticipate their "last hurrah." At the resort the story's narrator, Claxton Carter, & his friends discover a lifestyle right out of their fantasies. The women do outnumber the men, drink heavily, & are eager for romance but don't necessarily intend that things instantly carry as far as the bedroom. Despite the frustration of these experiences, they enjoy the summer to the fullest before moving on to the grimmer realities of life.
