As she tries to help her father deal with his memories of Vietnam, fifteen-year-old Tess finds comfort in her friendship with the sensible Selina and distraction in her infatuation with the dangerous Caleb. During a stay at an aunt's home with her exhausted father, a Vietnam War veteran, 15-year-old Tessa falls in love with handsome but dangerous Caleb. Tessa Ramsey has always yearned for a wise and loving father, someone like Atticus Finch in 'To Kill a Mockingbird'. Her father's career as a surgeon left little time for her.
