The first two-thirds of this biography presents Carter's background, youth, education, political career, and the significant events of his presidency. Unlike most children's books on Jimmy Carter, though, this one goes beyond his term as president to discuss his later achievements as a writer, a lecturer, a Habitat for Humanity volunteer, an election observer, and an international negotiator and peace maker. With its large type and many photographs, some in color, the format suggests second-or third-grade level, but slightly older readers will be better able to handle the vocabulary.
