The Story

'From about 1600 through 1850, determined men in fragile bark canoes paddled up the rivers and streams of the Great Lakes watershed. These men, known as Voyageurs or 'travellers,' set out in the late fall hoping to trade a few simple trinkets and tools for thick, valuable beaver skins. Their quest took them deeper and deeper into the wilderness, and their adventures and explorations shaped the history of the North American continent.
